Chapter Events

The San Diego Chapter is dedicated to providing world-class content to our members in the areas of information systems (IS) audit, governance, risk management, privacy, and security. Our chapter meets on the third Thursday of each month (typically from 12:00 to 2:00 PM PST) and there’s a minimum of one (1) continuing professional education (CPE) credit for each meeting. Members are invited to follow ISACA’s CPE Policy. Content from meetings will help our members maintain current knowledge to support their CISA, CISM, CRISC, CGEIT certifications as well as the CyberSecurity Nexus certificate. Members are welcomed to submit ideas for meeting topics to programdirector@isaca-sd.org. Guests are always welcomed and the fees for monthly meetings are kept low or free to ensure active participation. Organizations are invited to sponsor monthly meetings for a nominal fee.

MITRE and the ATT&CK Framework: Its Uses and Growing Adoption

March 22 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

DETAILS
Date/Time: Thursday, March 22 12:00pm-1:15pm

Topic: MITRE and the ATT&CK Framework: Its Uses and Growing Adoption
Speaker: Alex Burkardt

The MITRE ATT&CK framework is a very effective tool for “adversary emulation”, cataloging how adversaries behave, what they’re trying to do, and the techniques used to accomplish their means. Moreover, the framework aims to provide a common language and vocabulary for practitioners, vendors, and all parties working to understand common threat actors and techniques.

In November 2018, MITRE evaluated a subset of techniques in an open-test environment, working with vendors to analyze their detection capabilities against these common techniques. With the results of this first evaluation now published, many are trying to make sense of results to understand the efficacy of different solutions in the marketplace today.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Alex Burkardt, Cybereason’s Field CTO, is a lifelong technologist with nearly two decades of experience in cyber security. After a career in the US Navy and the intelligence community tackling nation state threats and understanding the impact of these adversaries in the public sector, Alex pivoted into private industry in order to focus on emerging technologies in the startup ecosystem. When not tackling tough cyber problems Alex enjoys working on technologies and software in the Bitcoin space. Alex holds a BS in Information Technology/Computer Science from the United States Naval Academy.
